I can only remember one time in my life that I was a "morning person" I was 18, living with my mom on the beach and would sneak out for a morning walk at 5am. Something about being completely alone and on the beach was what kept me getting up. It was a pretty good routine, I'd get up and walk one mile along the beach to a local cafe, get a bagel and a coffee and head one mile back down the beach, shower and get ready for work. This only lasted from May to August of that year before I started staying out later, and ultimately, caring less about setting aside time for just me. Since then I've had two kids, and developed less than ideal sleep and eating habits. I wake up about 20 minutes before I need to be out the door. This past Christmas my mom gifted me a copy of The Morning Sidekick Journal which claims to be a science-based journal that keeps you laser-focused on your morning routine. I NEED THIS IN MY LIFE, how did she know? A large part of this process for me is figuring out what my "frog" is, the thing I know I need to do, but usually push off until the last minute. I dread the entire morning but yoga is by far one of the hardest things for me to dedicate the proper time to and I love it so much when I finally do it. My frog is yoga. So here I am on morning one, I didn't get out of bed as early as I wanted, I didn't do yoga or drink a cup of tea before anyone else got up in the house. But I got up 20 minutes earlier, got myself and my daughter dressed with minimal yelling, made a morning smoothie, wrote in my journal and even had five minutes to spare before we needed to leave. Baby steps. Tomorrow is a new day. Cheers! This blog post contains links to outside sources. This is not a sponsored post and opinions stated are my own.
